Youth Counseling

Since 2004. the Department of School and University Medicine implements Youth Counseling Program. The team of five specialists of school medicine, nurse, gynecologists, and if necessary, psychologists in collaboration with other Departments of the Institute (Microbiological Laboratories, statistics, epidemiology ... ..) respond to health and other needs of young people educated in Zagreb.
 
The purpose of this program is to assist and support students in solving problems and difficulties related to psychological and physical growth and development, education, learning and behavior, adapting to change their place of residence, eating disorders, sexual development and behavior. All activities of the youth counseling aim at the preservation and promotion of health and development of responsibilities towards health.
 
Youth Counseling Program includes health-educational and health measures to protect health, including primary and secondary prevention. Health and educational measures consist of individual, pair or group counseling, single or multiple, thematic workshops, lectures and discussions intended for students and parents.

Health measures include monitoring the health status through regular checkups and indicated diagnostic procedures:

  • monitoring the condition of the genital system for the timely detection and treatment of infections / diseases, systematic gynecological examinations and screening for early detection of sexually transmitted infections / diseases for both sexes, promotion and application of appropriate methods and means of contraception,
  • learning communication skills, self-help and tolerance (working with pairs),
  • teatment of adolescents with eating disorders and promoting of health measures for the primary and secondary prevention of obesity,
  • diagnosis and treatment of disabilities in learning and behavior.
